trigger treat‼️
I gift you a Howa M1500 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor! It's got a snow camo print stock with a Vortex Crossfire scope!
Tumblr media
In March of 2020, the Howa M1500 was the third best-selling rifle in the USA, and this particular rifle, known for its accuracy, is even used by some military and police departments as a sniper rifle. The rifle itself is based on the Weatherby Mk V, which (in and of itself) is an extremely accurate rifle.

Range day! My son also was off from work so we went to the range together. From left to right, an Enfield No5 Mk1, an Enfield No4 Mk1, an Ishapore Enfield 2A1 chambered in 7.62x51, A Sig 716i in .308, a Remington 700 tactical in 308, and a PTR PDW chambered in .308. It was a fun day!
Tumblr media
The best grouping of the day? This 100 yard 4 shot group from my Enfield No4 Mk1 which I set up like a No4 Mk1 T with a Vortex scope. I was shocked that I got a sub MOA group from a rifle that was designed to shoot about 4 MOA from the factory. Very pleased with that performance from an 80 year old battle rifle.

It used to be Skip's.
An M21 sniper rifle with a slightly nicked scope and worn-out leather sling that they'd been meaning to change right before all this shit went down. The only reason the old thing was clean was because Eli was running out of things to do up in this watchtower all by himself, and cleaning that goddamn gun was the next best thing on his list if he couldn't replace its strap.
He hadn't reached for it in a few hours and he thought that was a pretty damn good record. It wasn't like he picked it up all the time with every intent to shoot it, either. He used it as a telescope when he was trying to get the finer details of the forest that surrounded him in the post he'd been isolated in. When Skip head out of the tower all those nights ago (how many was it, now?), he accidentally took Eli's bag, and that bag held the high powered binoculars specific to Deadwood Peak Lookout—the Vortex, no. 3, marked as the third pair assigned to the third outpost within a 200-mile radius of the woods.
But now, he reached for it with his finger on the trigger, eyes fixed at the door. The rifle was just as strong close range even if it wasn't meant for that sort of thing. And it had more bullets than the GLOCK 9 he kept in a tin box under the bed. That one had one left for the one last thing Eli would do.
So he kept it pointed at the door, that goddamn door that also needed to be fixed. Anybody could've broken past the damn thing in all this time, but no one had tried until now. Hell, he wasn't even sure the person he thought he saw on the ground would try. This could all just be some fever dream sans peyote. Eli wasn't sure what he'd rather it be: His first encounter with a human since Skip left exactly 28 days ago, or some fucked up psychosis. He could barely swallow as he waited.

Understanding Scopes: A Comprehensive Guide to Optics for Shooting
Scopes have revolutionized the way shooters engage targets, providing enhanced accuracy and improved target acquisition. Whether you're a hunter, competitive shooter, or enthusiast, understanding the types of scopes and their features is crucial for maximizing performance. This article explores the different aspects of rifle scopes, helping you make informed decisions when choosing the right optic for your needs.
Types of Scopes
Scopes come in various types, each designed for specific applications. The most common are:
Hunting Scopes: Typically offer lower magnification ranges (3-9x or 4-12x), suitable for medium to long-range shots. They often feature illuminated reticles to enhance visibility in low light conditions, making them ideal for early morning or dusk hunting.
Tactical Scopes: Designed for military or law enforcement use, these scopes typically have variable magnification and robust construction to withstand harsh conditions. They often include features like illuminated reticles, adjustable turrets, and quick-release mounts.
Long-Range Scopes: Built for precision shooting at extended distances, these scopes often offer higher magnification ranges (10x and above) and advanced reticle systems designed for bullet drop compensation and windage adjustments.
Red Dot Sights: While not traditional scopes, red dot sights provide quick target acquisition for close-range shooting. They use a LED red dot to help align your aim and are popular in competitive shooting and tactical applications.
Key Features to Consider
When selecting a scope, several features are critical to consider:
Magnification: The first number in a scope's designation indicates the magnification power. A 3-9x scope means it can magnify an object three to nine times. Choose a magnification based on your shooting distance and style.
Objective Lens Diameter: Measured in millimeters, this number indicates the diameter of the front lens. A larger objective lens allows more light to enter, improving brightness and clarity, especially in low-light conditions.
Reticle Type: Scopes come with various reticles, including duplex, BDC (bullet drop compensation), and mil-dot. Each type serves a different purpose, so choose one that aligns with your shooting needs.
Construction Quality: Look for scopes that are waterproof, fog-proof, and shock-resistant. High-quality materials ensure durability, allowing your scope to perform well in diverse environments.
Popular Brands
Several brands have established themselves as leaders in the optics industry:
Vortex: Known for their exceptional quality and warranty, Vortex offers a range of scopes suitable for various applications.
Leupold: A trusted name among hunters and shooters, Leupold is renowned for its durable, high-performance optics.
Nikon: Although primarily known for cameras, Nikon produces excellent rifle scopes with superior optical clarity and innovative features.
Burris: Offers a variety of scopes that are rugged and reliable, with unique reticle options that cater to different shooting styles.

Vortex Optics Essentials: Choosing the Right Optic for Hunting, Shooting, and Outdoor Adventures
Tumblr media
Devices for the outdoors, such as vortex optics, pertain to tools that utilize lenses, mirrors, and other optical elements to magnify or concentrate distant items, thus making them easily viewable. Applications are diverse and cut across such fields as hunting, bird watching, military operations, and sports shooting, where an unobstructed view of far off objects or details is paramount.
Why Are Optics Used?
The benefit of optics is, with far vision and precision, to show very detailed pictures of what can be seen from far distances, which sometimes requires accuracy, like while hunting, surveying areas for surveillance, target practice, and even some type of scientific study.
Where Optics Are Used?
Hunting and outdoor sports: For spotting, identification, and aiming.
Military and Tactical: Surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition.
Scientific Research: Wild and nature study.
Recreational Activities: Bird Watching, Hiking, and Gazing at the Stars.
Types of Optics and Their Purposes
Monocular
Definition: Monocular is a one-lens optic in the image of half of a binocular. It provides one eye magnification, often smaller and lighter than a binocular.
Used for casual viewing, bird watching, and other outdoor activities where lightweight and compact optics are more desirable.
Binoculars
Definition: Binoculars are binocular optics, or one can use both eyes to view. They provide depth perception and an expansive field of view, making it easier to identify moving objects.
Used for: Best for wildlife observation, bird watching, and any activity where a wide field of view is beneficial.
Rangefinders
Definition: An optic that measures the distance to a target. Most modern rangefinders use lasers to find the range.
Used For: Very useful for hunting and golf, among other sports where correct targeting depends upon exact distance.
Riflescopes
Definition: A riflescope is a mounted optical sighting device in a firearm, which aids a shooter to aim accurately to hit a distant target.
Used For: Mainly hunting and shooting sports enhance this activity for accuracy since the riflescope magnifies the target, and cross-hairs or reticles will provide accurate aiming.
Red Dot Sights
Definition: Red dot sight is an optic that projects a red or green dot reticle onto a glass lens to achieve the target rapidly without magnification.
Used For: These are widely used on firearms for close to medium-range shooting in situations where speed and accuracy are paramount, such as in tactical or competition shooting.
Essential Gear for Vision, Accuracy, and Quick Targeting Outdoors
Vortex Optics significantly improves vision, accuracy, and distance measurement in most outdoor, recreational, and tactical activities. Monoculars and binoculars are simple magnification devices, while rangefinders and riflescopes are more specialised for advanced functionality in measuring distances and targeting. Red dot sights are perfect for fast, close range shooting and ideal for situations that require quick target acquisition. And since all those optics have particular practical uses, they naturally became essentials for every type of hunter, military, outdoorsman, and sport.

.50 Steel Crow
"This is the prince of mayhem, hand cannon, sword of judgement. Take this fucker back to holy land to start your own crusade. Steel Crow's .50 DS caliber insures ego, soul and body shattered with each shot. After shooting your arm might hurt and ears would ring, but it's sheer power makes it up for these issues" - Vendor talking about .50 Steel Crow
Steel Crow is a pistol chambered in .50 DS (Death Sentence). It is one of more powerful, but very inaccurate and expensive weapon. It's magazine size and price of ammo make this gun feel like a gun for someone liking precision or more close combat approach.
Background
Steel Crow was made around the start of the 80's by Hebrew Weaponry Manufacturing and later by Nitro Technologies. It uses various calibers usually used for revolvers or other hi-cal pistols. It was used in a lot of games, movies, games and even in some comics or cartoons. This gun is usually portrayed as good guy or bady guy's main weapon due to it's size and look. However, this gun is actually not that good, besides it's intergrated rails or it's big caliber tending to kill anything in front of it's barrel and behind. Nowadays there are Steel Crow pistols in a lot of configurations. Only CSF, IDF, GOE and GROM are known to use those pistols to any extent.
2. Overview
Steel Crow's main strenght is damage and fairly alright spread. It's intergrated rail on barrel allows to attach various types of sights. One can also purchase a underbarrel picatinny rail to add things like laser sights, flashlights or rangefinder. Steel Crow is very fit for close distance shooting or more slower and precise from medium ranges. One can modify it with compesator, muzzle brake or stocks. There is few models of Steel Crow as well: PF5, S-I, S-VII ,S-XIX and even Police Contractor Package. Gun fires .50 DS, which is shared with Nitro Technologies MFH, HNT Coyote Magnum (another .50 cal by them is GORE-LOT .50 sniper rifle) and AIM Hand Cannon V.
Notable customized versions:
"Major Mindblower" - owned by Karl "Marx" Magnovich. Customized with diffrent finish, stars and scythe emblems and firing .357 instead of .50 DS.
"Bodyguard Duty" - owned by Vortex. Main diffrences is diffrent, three-toned finish, Horde Sink compesator, wooden grips and uses .44 ammunition.
"Big Platty" - owned by Terry Guido. It has platinum finish with golden parts and ivory grips
"Bel Air Brawler" - owned by Jeremiah and put into his customized weapon collection. It has grey finish, Connor Compesator barrel with 'Bel Air Brawler' engraved on it and sometimes can be seen with a Onlooker compact scope. Uses .357 ammo.
"The Holy Equalizer" - owned by original Eve. Modifications include indigo colored iron sights, Long Joe barrel and stainless pink finish.
3. Behind The Scenes
-Steel Crow is based on Desert Eagle, along with HWM parodying IMI, original creator of Desert Eagle. Another manufacturer of Steel Crow is a parody of Magnum Research. HWM's name is a analogy for IMI, while Nitro Technologies is a play on Magnum Research (Nitro comes from Nitro Express, bullets used to hunt animals).
-Some Custom Steel Crows are based off various Desert Eagles made for movies or tv shows, "Major Mindblower" is based on Deagle seen in The Boondock Saints, "Big Platty" was created around custom Desert Eagle seen in Sopranos and "Bel Air Brawler" is based on Desert Eagles seen in The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, but with some visual diffrences and occasionally can be seen with a scope.
-The name of main cartridge and weapon description are reference to movie Death Sentence.
-Some unique parts are named after movies, games or other things:
Connor Compesator comes from name of Connor McManus from The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, same for Murphy Custom Silencer for Barista 92
Golden Eye Laser System is based on laser sight mounted on a Desert Eagle seen in 007: Nightfire
PF5's name is a nod to game Phantom Forces, where L5, PF5's inspiration appears
Police Contractor Package's first letters for PCP, which is type of illegal narcotics
Hawk Lighter custom muzzle is a nod to Lightning Hawk from Resident Evil and it's design is based off real life airsoft replicas when drawn in more detail
Leon Biohazard barrel is same barrel as seen on Desert Eagle Leon Custom airsoft replica
Long Joe barrel is a play on term "Long Johnson" which is a usually jokingly used term for a penis

I’m not gonna buy a scope over $2000. I’ll spend $1999.99 on a scope but not a penny more. This is almost half the cost and has the features I want.
Side note, sportsman’s staff is mostly working with hunters. “I need to see what someone is holding in their hands at 300 meters” , is not a typical request. But my suitably autistic gun merchant (he works at both stores I use), was able to help me out.

Note
Does wind actually effect the calculations that go into taking a shot with a rifle, or is that movie bullshit? I assume wind is very important for shooting something like a bow, but with a rifle I have no clue
Do enlighten, o mighty firearm autistic
Yes it does! This is the scope I use, the Vortex Optics Razor HD 5-20x50. These little dials you see are called turrets and adjust the scope so that you can aim properly. The ones on the side are the elevation turrets and move the scope up and down, and you adjust them for the range of the shot. The one on the top is the windage turret and moves the scope left or right, and you use that to adjust for wind. It's not actually distance what makes or breaks the shot at long range (since scope often have a couple hundred yards added on the reticle) but instead the speed of wind.
Tumblr media
For an idea of just how important taking windage into account is, I'm gonna give you an example. If you have a 10mph wind coming in from 2:00 at 1,000yd out and take the shot without adjusting for wind, by the time the bullet crosses the target it'll have moved nine feet to the left of the target. (Shooting is often done in imperial and not metric, even in countries what use metric. Despite being Australian I count my range in imperial yards and my windspeed in miles per hour. That said I use grams for measuring the weight of gunpowder when handloading!)
Wind actually isn't taken into account much in archery unless it's very windy since you typically aren't shooting at a distance far enough for wind to interfere with your shot. Only days it really matters are on very windy days or when shooting long-distance--40yd or beyond. Meanwhile with firearms like rifles, long-range shooting is considered anything beyond 500yd. :]

Key Features to Look for in Hunting Binoculars When shopping for hunting binoculars, it’s easy to get lost in the jargon. Magnification, objective lens diameter, field of view… it can all seem a bit much. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Let’s simplify it: Magnification Power Think of magnification as your superpower. It brings distant objects closer. For hunting, 8x to 10x magnification is usually the sweet spot. It offers enough zoom to see far but not so much that you can’t keep your target in view, especially with shaky hands in the cold morning air. Objective Lens Diameter The objective lens is the one at the front of the binoculars, farthest from your eyes. Its size determines how much light gets in, which is crucial for early morning or late evening hunts. A larger diameter (measured in millimeters) means brighter images. However, bigger lenses also mean heavier binoculars, so aim for a balance. A 42mm lens is often a good compromise between light gathering and portability. Field of View Field of view is all about how wide an area you can see through your binoculars at a certain distance. It’s especially important when tracking moving animals. A wider field of view makes it easier to follow your target without losing sight of it. Durability and Waterproofing Let’s face it, hunting isn’t a walk in the park. You need binoculars that can withstand a drop, resist water, and not fog up in cold weather. Look for rugged, rubber-armored bodies, waterproof construction, and fog-proof lenses. Weight and Portability You’ll be carrying these binoculars all day, so weight matters. Lightweight models are your friend, but don’t sacrifice optical quality for a few ounces. Find a pair that feels good in your hands and on your neck. Optical Quality and Lens Coatings The heart of any binocular is its optical quality. High-definition (HD) optics, extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, and multi-coated lenses reduce glare, enhance color fidelity, and improve clarity. These features might bump up the price, but the difference in image quality is worth every penny. Types of Hunting Binoculars Not all binoculars are created equal, and when it comes to hunting, the type you choose can make a big difference. Roof Prism vs. Porro Prism In the world of binoculars, there are two main types of prism designs: roof and Porro. Roof prism binoculars are sleek, compact, and easy to handle, making them great for hunters on the move. Porro prism binoculars, on the other hand, tend to be bulkier but offer a wider field of view and generally better depth perception. Both have their merits, so consider what’s more important to you: portability or a slightly richer viewing experience. Compact Binoculars for On-the-Move Hunters If you’re the type who likes to stalk your prey or cover a lot of ground, compact binoculars might be your best bet. They’re light, easy to carry, and quick to whip out at a moment’s notice. Just remember, smaller binoculars usually mean smaller lenses, so you might sacrifice some image quality, especially in low light. Full-Sized Binoculars for Stationary Observation For hunters who prefer to wait in blinds or stands, full-sized binoculars are the way to go. They offer the best image quality, brightest views, and most comfortable eye relief (that’s the distance from the eyepiece lens to your eye, by the way). Yes, they’re heavier, but when you’re sitting still, the extra weight is less of an issue. Understanding Binocular Specifications Alright, let’s decode those cryptic numbers you see on binoculars. You’ll often find them listed as something like “10×42.” The first number (10x) is the magnification power, and the second number (42) is the objective lens diameter in millimeters. Easy, right? Importance of Eye Relief for Hunters with Glasses If you wear glasses, eye relief is a big deal. It’s the distance you can hold the binoculars away from your eyes while still seeing the full field of view. Look for binoculars with longer eye relief (15mm or more) so you can keep your glasses on and still see everything clearly. Choosing the Right Binoculars for Different Hunting Scenarios Hunting environments vary wildly, from dense forests to open plains and rugged mountains. Each setting demands a different approach when selecting binoculars. Binoculars for Various Hunting Environments - Forested Areas: In dense woods, light is limited, and distances are shorter. Look for binoculars with a larger objective lens (42mm or more) to maximize light gathering. A lower magnification (8x) helps with a wider field of view, making it easier to spot game in thick cover. - Open Plains: Here, distance is your challenge. Higher magnification (10x or more) lets you scan vast areas and spot distant game. Just remember, higher magnification can make for a shakier image, so consider a model that’ Read the full article
